Spiked Cranberry Apple Cider

Contrary to popular belief, the pumpkin spice latte is not the official beverage of fall. No, I believe that honor belongs to cider, especially of the alcoholic variety.

Our cranberry apple cider takes a classic autumn drink and kicks it up a notch or two. Fresh fruit is always a plus in our books, and the little bit (okay, maybe it’s a lot) of brandy combined with a host of delicious fall spices means this concoction will really warm you up.

I think my favorite thing about making this is hearing the fresh cranberries pop in the pan. The bright red color makes it a perfectly festive holiday drink, too.

Spiked Cranberry Apple Cider

Makes 4 servings

Ingredients:
6 cups apple cider
2 cups fresh cranberries
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cardamom
1 apple, thinly sliced
1/3 cup brandy

Directions:
In a large saucepan, combine cider, cranberries and spices and place over medium heat.

Cook until cranberries begin to pop (about 7-8 minutes), then add apple slices and brandy. Bring to a boil and cook for 2-3 minutes before removing from heat.

Allow to cool slightly before transferring to a pitcher. Discard fruit before serving, or leave in pitcher and strain as you pour.
