Razzle Frazzle’s Anniversary Giveaway: Blue Apron Boxes

Guess what, guys? One week from today, Razzle Frazzle is turning THREE. That’s right—we’ve been at this for three whole years, and we wanted to do something fun to celebrate and thank the people who read our blog.

Before we get into that, though, we wanted to take a minute and tell you a little bit about one of our favorite subscription services ever: Blue Apron. You’ve probably heard of them (or at least the concept, which has gained popularity in the years since Nicole wrote this profile on the company). Every week, they come up with recipes using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and send their members everything they need (besides salt, pepper and cooking oil) to make those dishes at home. The perfectly-portioned ingredients arrive on your doorstep in a refrigerated box with step-by-step photo recipe cards to help you follow along. We’ve been loyal members for more than a year now, and we have yet to receive a recipe we didn’t absolutely love.

Blue Apron recipe cards

Just a few of our favorite recent Blue Apron meals. We probably have enough of these recipe cards to fill up a college textbook.

Most of the recipes take about 45 minutes start to finish, making them a great option for weeknights. Admittedly, some of the prep steps are pretty involved, but if you have someone helping you in the kitchen (like we do!), it can be a really fun activity for couples or families who love to cook. With a lot of the “family style” dishes, you’ll usually end up with leftovers, which really stretches out the cost per meal ($9.99 per serving/$59.94 per delivery for the three-meal, 2-Person Plan; $8.64 per serving/$69.92 per delivery for the two-meal, Family Plan).

Blue Apron makes it super simple to customize your meals. While they don’t yet accommodate for food allergies or vegan diets, you can opt for all-vegetarian meals (with the 2-Person Plan) or de-select certain meats and/or seafood from your menu options. Once these criteria are set, you can choose your meals from the four options presented each week, via the website or mobile app.

If you’re on a budget, $60/$70 can be a little pricey to keep up each week. That’s why we love the fact that you can skip a delivery (or two or three or four) whenever you need to, no questions asked. Just go to your delivery schedule six days before your next box arrives and skip it. Your credit card won’t be charged, and you can access the recipes you’re missing in case you decide to try it on your own later. (That goes for all Blue Apron recipes, by the way: You can view all of their past meals right here on their Cookbook page.)

Although we’ve never gone for any of Blue Apron’s add-on items, you can purchase cooking gear, cookbooks and wine directly from their website. They also recently introduced a wine subscription program, which offers six 500 mL bottles of wine per month for $65.99 plus tax. As a Blue Apron recipe subscriber, your wines will complement your upcoming meals, so you can feel like a true sommelier, even if you’re like us and typically reach for the cheapest bottles your local liquor store has on hand.

If you’re not happy with Blue Apron for any reason, you can always cancel your subscription by contacting customer service. But to be honest, if you like to cook, you’ll see no reason to cut your ties. Whether you can afford to be a weekly subscriber or just get a box every once in a while to #treatyoself like we do, you’ll love this fun and exciting way to discover new recipes.

The giveaway

After you’ve enjoyed a few Blue Apron deliveries, the company will credit you with several free deliveries to give to family and friends who haven’t tried them yet. Winners will receive one free box containing 2 four-serving meals or 3 two-serving meals, depending on the option they choose.

You must provide a valid email address, as this is how you will be able to claim your free Blue Apron box should you win the giveaway. Entries will be closed at 11:59 pm ET on March 20, 2016. Five winners will be selected and notified by email on March 21, 2016. Winners will have 48 hours to respond and claim their prize; otherwise, another winner will be selected.

That one actually just came in our box last week! They were soooo good. Definitely one of the easier Blue Apron recipes we’ve gotten, both in terms of prep and the ability to get the ingredients on your own. Highly recommend it!

What a great giveaway! I’ve been so curious about this service…thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts. The recipes I’d like to try are too many to list, but a few of the top ones would be Spicy Shrimp Spaghetti, English Pea & Goat Cheese Quiche, Cuban Sandwiches and Provencal Chicken & Potato Stew.

Thanks for entering, Heather! Honestly, I love every recipe Blue Apron has ever sent me. I didn’t get any of the specific ones you listed, but they’ve done similar variations (some of which I have tried) and they are all great. As I said, some are a little more time consuming than others, but always worth it.
